Kirtan offers a beautiful pathway to stillness — reached through the resonance of your own voice. Devotional music and community kirtan, rooted in Bhakti practice.
Alys's path into Bhakti Yoga began through Sasha Heath, a fellow musician she sang alongside — when Sasha moved to Greece, Alys stepped in to lead her kirtan circle in London, and has been practising ever since, eight years on. She describes herself as an alternative, heuristic musician: drawn to music across cultures rather than trained within a single tradition. That path took her to Indonesia to study gamelan and polyphony, and later to SOAS, University of London, where she studied West African, Zimbabwean, and Southeast Asian musical traditions.
It was only after discovering kirtan that she found her voice as an instrument in its own right. In 2019 she trained as a kirtan practitioner under Nikki Slade, completing a 200-hour, Yoga Alliance–certified qualification. As she describes it: kirtan soothes through the resonance of one's own voice — a direct route into meditation, one that deepens the more it's practised.
Alys is currently completing a Master of Music in Music Production, and is open to production work — including sound for guided meditation and holistic therapy practices.
